Residential Programs
Thornridge's residential programs serve patients who require structured psychiatric care in a supportive live-in environment. Our residential wing, located on the main Thornridge campus, accommodates up to 34 patients in private and semi-private rooms. Each resident is assigned a primary psychiatrist, a therapy team, and a case manager who coordinate the resident's care throughout their stay.
Residential care at Thornridge is indicated for patients whose clinical needs exceed the scope of outpatient treatment but who do not require acute inpatient hospitalization. Typical stays range from 30 to 90 days, with ongoing observation and assessment for patients requiring extended psychiatric care. The length of stay is determined by the treatment team in consultation with the patient, the patient's family (where applicable), and third-party payors.
Residents participate in a daily schedule including individual therapy sessions, group programming, medication management, therapeutic activities, and structured social time. Our residential units are designed to feel homelike rather than institutional, with private reading areas, a shared dining space, and access to our campus gardens and walking paths.
The residential program is not a locked unit. Residents are expected to abide by program rules but may request leave for family visits, medical appointments outside the facility, or other necessary activities.
Admission
Admission to the residential program requires a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and referral from a qualified mental health provider. Most admissions originate from our outpatient programs, other psychiatric facilities, or hospital emergency departments. Insurance preauthorization is typically required.
