Thornridge interior treatment space

Programs and Services

Thornridge offers a coordinated continuum of outpatient behavioral health services. Each patient's care begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and is tailored to their specific clinical needs, goals, and life circumstances.

Outpatient Psychiatric Care

Our core service is individual outpatient psychiatric care. Patients meet regularly with a board-certified psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner for evaluation, diagnosis, and ongoing treatment. Appointments are scheduled at a frequency determined collaboratively between patient and provider, typically ranging from weekly to monthly depending on clinical need.

We treat a wide range of conditions including major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Our approach is evidence-based and focused on meaningful, measurable improvement in our patients' lives.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

For patients who require more support than weekly visits can provide, our Intensive Outpatient Program offers structured weekday programming over a defined period. IOP includes daily group therapy, twice-weekly psychiatric consultations, psychoeducation, and skill-building sessions focused on coping strategies and relapse prevention.

Most patients complete IOP in eight to twelve weeks. The program is designed as a bridge — helping patients stabilize and develop the tools they need to succeed in standard outpatient care.

Medication Management

Psychiatric medication, when appropriate, is one important tool in mental health treatment. Our psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners provide careful evaluation, thoughtful prescribing, and ongoing monitoring of medication regimens. We work collaboratively with patients to understand both the benefits and side effects of treatment and to adjust care as needed.

Group Therapy

We offer several weekly therapy groups focused on specific topics, including depression and mood disorders, anxiety management, trauma recovery, and substance use support. Groups are led by licensed clinical therapists and typically meet for eight to twelve weeks.

Family Consultation

Mental health treatment is often most effective when families are informed and engaged. We offer consultation sessions for family members of current patients, with the patient's consent, to support communication, shared understanding, and mutual care.

Residential Programs

For patients whose clinical needs exceed the scope of outpatient treatment, Thornridge offers a structured residential program on our main campus. Typical stays range from 30 to 90 days and include daily therapy, medication management, and therapeutic activities in a supportive live-in environment. For more information, please visit our Residential Programs page or contact our Admissions Office.

In a Mental Health Emergency

Thornridge is not a 24-hour facility and cannot provide emergency psychiatric care. In the event of a behavioral health emergency, patients and families are advised to call 988, the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or to visit their nearest hospital emergency department.
